You are the Powers!

I am devoting the month of July to the Twelve Powers. The Twelve Powers are a system that Unity Co-Founder Charles Fillmore structured around the twelve disciples and a particular ability or power that they represented. Each of these abilities or powers is also associated with an energy center of the physical body aligned similar to the chakras. Mr. Fillmore understood that we are born in the image and likeness of God and we have inherent abilities. These abilities were demonstrated by Jesus time and time again throughout his life and in his teachings.

In my years of practicing Unity Principles and Teachings, I have grown greatly in understanding and appreciation of these powers. I have learned that by living mindfully of my thoughts, words and actions that I am aware of when I am incongruent with my true powers and when I am functioning purely from my humanness. I have practiced calling upon these abilities many times throughout the years.
I have learned that there is great freedom when I call upon my inherent powers to navigate life’s challenges, learnings and even in life’s celebrations. The freedom comes from abandoning the possibility of being a victim of another or of circumstances, instead standing squarely in the Truth of my being.

I have also learned that with increased knowledge, I feel a greater responsibility for what I put into my world. There is freedom as I live the Unity principles as I co-create my life by the action of my thinking. The thoughts and beliefs that I hold with consistency and enthusiasm will become my life. This is the power of our powers!

These Twelve Powers are
Will, Strength, Imagination, Zeal, Understanding, Order, Love, Wisdom, Dominion, Life, Elimination, and Faith.

Whatever shows up in my life is a result of the intentions I have set and the consciousness of the collective. Whatever shows up in my life, I know that I have within me all that I need to navigate each experience from my true, inherent abilities.

During the month of July we will explore each of these powers, what energy center they occupy in our bodies, how we use them, and what life may look like when we don’t use our abilities.
In her writings “Christ Enthroned in Man”, Cora Fillmore says this about invoking the Twelve Powers in our lives:

“In conclusion, resolve that from this time on you are conscious of your I AM power and dominion, that henceforth you consciously direct your life in the light of Spirit, your heart and your head are working together in all wisdom and power.”

A peek into what the month will bring is summed up in this:
On the darkest days when I feel
inadequate, unloved and unworthy,
I remember whose daughter I AM.
Then I straighten my crown, I
pull up my powers, and I adjust my cape!

Please join me Sunday, July 2nd for the beginning of “The Powers of Your Independence!” Stay a while after the service for “Bountiful Banquet” (the pot luck of the past). Bring your favorite picnic dish to share and enjoy our First Sunday celebration!

Blessings to you!
