Music Sancturary

Everyone knows it.  The church on the corner of Greenville Avenue and McCommas is widely recognized in Dallas with its unique Spanish architecture.

Now the church, Unity Church of Christianity, will be the venue for the new Greenville Avenue Music Sanctuary, a series of Friday or Saturday night concerts featuring a variety of local talent.

The shows will be scheduled every 6 to 8 weeks, according to Rev. Steve Colladay, minister at Unity, with a portion of each concert proceeds donated to a local charity.

“Unity on Greenville,” says Rev. Colladay, “is committed to serving our community.  We believe offering quality music, support for a local charity, in an alcohol-free, non-smoking environment meets a need in Dallas.  A sanctuary in the midst of the busyness of the metroplex.  We envision an eclectic mix of music—jazz, blues, folk, classical and more.  Who knows—maybe even a polka band.”

The Dreamsicles, a Texas-based folk/pop duo featuring Tom Prasada-Rao and Cary Cooper, will headline the first concert September 13 at 8:30 p.m..  Tickets are $15 and more details will be available soon.  The Interfaith Housing Coalition has been the designated charity for the inaugural concert.

The Dreamsicles - the Texas based folk/pop duo featuring Tom Prasada-Rao and Cary Cooper. Two voices and a guitar, intricate harmonies with a little cheerleading thrown in, singing love songs for grown ups.  They've been touring together for two years, and have just finished their second CD.

Both Tom and Cary are Kerrville New Folk Competition Winners - accomplished songwriters in their own right. They draw on their experience in classical violin, musical theater, raising kids, and living in the third world to create songs which navigate the territory between Everything But The Girl and Leonard Cohen, Lucy Kaplansky and Krishna Das.

11 Days of Global Unity

A Season of Interfaith Celebration

from Unity World Day of Prayer September 11, 2008 through International Day of Peace September 21, 2008

This year Unity, Association of Unity Churches International, and Association for Global New Thought will join in a worldwide celebration of oneness with hundreds of organizations who are collaborating under the umbrella We, The World. Beginning with Unity World Day of Prayer and continuing through to International Day of Peace, Unity is inviting participation in events for celebrating oneness and healing our world. For 11 days, through workshops, inspirational talks, interfaith prayer ceremonies, concerts, special events, dances and discussions, Unity will expand the possibilities of what we can do, by partnering with like-minded organizations to affirm, create and celebrate the dawning of a new era of global peace, transformational healing and sustainable living.

Love Offering

We say what we believe, we can achieve. We say we know that every person carries a spark of the divine within. But how do these spiritual principles show up in our lives? What would change day-to-day if we lived in the absolute knowledge that we are one with each other and God? Using five basic Unity spiritual principles, Ellen Debenport offers practical ways to apply universal laws to health, wealth, work and relationships.

LookForTheGood.org

"This election season, make a positive difference...remember to look for the good."

Created by our Association of Unity Churches International, this campaign, Look for the Good, was conceived as a positive response to negative campaigning. Our print ads state, "This election season, make a positive difference...remember to look for the good."

In other words, in keeping with the Law of Attraction (what we focus on/give our attention to, we attract into our lives), do not respond to negative campaigning—focus rather on the positive attributes of the candidates and their messages. It may seem a simplistic idea, but if put into action, what an amazing difference it could make!

This concept of Look for the Good goes far beyond politics. It is a guideline for living our everyday lives. It means not dwelling on what is wrong, but what is right. If it is true that what we put out into the universe is what comes back to us many fold, it could truly change our lives and those around us.

Every day each of us experiences situations when we have to make a choice how we will respond. You can respond by looking for the good. For instance:

Repeat this affirmation to yoursel f- I make a positive difference. I look for the good in this situation and respond with love, wisdom and understanding.

You are invited to change your experience of the upcoming election as well as your life. Remember to...Look for the Good.
