Advent Gift of Love 2

How happy I am to talk yet one more time about Love.  How it warms my heart, soothes my soul, and enlivens my mind to think of Love.  While our world and perhaps at times our human mind gyrates in this human condition, the power and presence of Love lifts us beyond the human appearances to Spirit.

When I think of Love, I turn immediately to the words of Unity cofounder, Charles Fillmore, who says:

Divine love is impersonal; it loves for the sake of loving. It is not concerned with what or who it loves, nor with a return of love. Like the sun, its joy is in the shining forth of its nature.

When we think of love, “impersonal” may not be our immediate thought, yet there is a sense of comfort that comes in knowing that love isn’t judging, critical, or discriminating about who or what it falls upon.  These are the qualities of love that I believe our world is crying out to receive. In a time when judgments one of another may be frequent, harsh, and long lasting it is reassuring that when we move from the spiritual power of love, it is a quality that is freely given to one and all.   This divine love is magnanimous!  Divine love asks for nothing in return.
While we all have an innate desire to love and to be loved, we know that others aren’t the true source of love, God is.  Others are not responsible for our feeling of love, nor are others responsible for filling our reservoir of love.

When we open ourselves to the power of love, it is a stream that flows in us from the endless source of God.  Yes, in this human form, we seek love from others.  There is nothing better in my life than the love I receive from my grandchildren.  It is palpable.  I feel deep love each time my Favorite Grandson, who also happens to be my only grandson, looks into my eyes. My heart literally melts when I am in his presence.

As we gathered Sunday past to celebrate and remember the joys of our time together as a spiritual community, there was an unmistakable and powerful presence of love.  It is in the space of shared community that we feel the presence of love one for another where love becomes rooted and grows.  It is the power of divine love that binds us one with another for all eternity.

This unifying aspect of love, is so very present at Unity on Greenville.  This Christmas season and for all time beyond, I pray you remain anchored in the beauty and grace of divine love that shall carry each of us on our life’s journey.  May your heart and mind be always filled with the warmth and comfort of love. May you always be uplifted by love’s grace and filled to overflowing with love so that love may flow across the landscape of our city.  I have often turned to I Corinthians 16:14 as a reminder “Let all you do be done in love”

Take these words to heart and live them each day.  As you “let all you do be done in love” you will infuse the world with your power and presence of love.  Imagine pouring love into each task that you do, from preparing meals, to washing dishes, or folding laundry.  As love flows through you and into each task, you will know that you are shifting and changing energetic vibration within you and around you.  Love will permeate every space you occupy.   Be the presence of love everywhere you go and in everything you do.  There is perhaps, no greater gift to give yourself or the world than love.

Blessings,

Rev. Karen
