Dismantling Racism Program

Facilitators:  Rev. Karen Romestan, Unity on Greenville
Rev. Geo Downer, Center of Unity, Grapevine

The goal of this program is to increase racial awareness, raise racial literacy, and inspire action for racial equality in our communities.

We will meet in two groups for five gatherings each followed by a gathering of everyone together in one large group.

Why two groups?
We will meet with people of color in one group and white people in another other group.  We do this so that everyone may feel free to speak without fearing they may make mistakes or say the wrong thing.  We desire for everyone to speak from the heart without feeling awkward about talking about racial issues.  There may be people who are not accustom to expressing their thoughts and feeling about racism.  Know that we will create a safe container to hold all the conversations. This is a learning and growing experience for all of us.

When and how will we meet?
We will meet by Zoom.  People who register for these conversations will be sent the Zoom link and all information needed to participate.

People of color will meet every other Sunday beginning August 9th from 6:30 until 8:00 pm.
White people will meet every other Sunday beginning August 16th from 6:30 until 8:00 pm.
There will be combined group meetings Sunday October 18th and 25th from 6:30 until 8:00 pm.

During our combined group time, we will complete an action plan to create stronger communities that are open and vulnerable as they move towered racial equality.
